Afranie Rounds Up Starlets Recruitment Recuitment of players for the Black Starlets in the northern sector has succesfully come to a close. The excecise, undertakken by the head coach of Starlets, E.K Afranie, and his assistants, Frimpong Manso and Rev Osei Kofi, allowed the over 50 players selected from schools, colleges, sports academies and colts clubs in the northern sector, to justify themselves at the Prempeh College park. Each player, played for 90 minutes against crack second division sides. Out of the 50 players selected earlier on in a different excercise, 25 were picked for consideration.  Speaking to Graphic Sports after the excercise, a satisfied coach Afranie said he was, pleased with the abundance of talents that was on display. He was full of praise for the boys who, according to him, comported themselves well. Even though the focus was on the already selected players, it was observed that some of the players from leading second division sides, namely Tornado, Sago MESS, New Edubiase United and Deportivo, could be considered later on.  The first match between the would-be Starlets side and Deportivo fetched four goals for coach Afranie’s side, with an outstanding performance from midfield gem Kwadwo Poku and gangling striker Faisal Mohammed. The second game against Sago Mess produced three goals for coach Afranie's side, while in the third game Ashanti regional second division league leaders, Tornado FC, lost by a lone goal. The last match involving the select side and New Edubiase saw the visitors whitewash coach Afranie’s side by four goals to nothing. Addressing the players after the excercise, the coach commended them for coming and for their good comportment, but warned them of the muddy waters that those selected would pass through to get refined. He impressed on them the fact that only a few would be finally be called up, and asked those who would miss the boat not to see it as the end of the road. Coach Afranie called on the lucky ones to brace themselves for the task ahead.
