7 For Barclays Global Five A Side Championship

Seven players have been selected to represent Barclays Bank Ghana Limited in this year's Barclays Premier League Global Five-A-Side Championship scheduled for Newcastle, United Kingdom on May 17, 2008. They are Francis Ofori, Edem Kekeli, Francis Appiah, Maxwell Napoleon, Richard Korama, Akuffo Teie Larbi and Jerry Katey Gyampoh. The players were selected at the end of the bank's qualifying tournament held in Accra on Thursday. The Scheme Loan team defeated Cash Passport One 3-2 in the finals to emerge champions. Maxwell Nortey, Nana Boakye and Ben Twum scored for the Scheme Loan team while Kofi Adutuah and Kwame Worlanyo netted for Cash Passport One. On their way to the finals, the champions defeated Aba Pa team, 4-3 on penalties, eliminated Networking team 3-0 and went on to beat Fixed Deposit Rate team 2-0 while the runners up beat Cash Passport Two, 3-2, beat Retail United 3-1 and white-washed Trustees 6-0. Mrs. Margaret Mwanakatwe, Managing Director of Barclays Bank Ghana Limited who presented prizes of 700 Ghana Cedis and the giant trophy to the champions, said the event would be an annual affair. She urged the selected players not to rest on their oars but to train harder to the bank and Ghana proud by winning the ultimate.
