The Volta River Authority (VRA) was established on April 26, 1961, under the Volta River Development Act, Act 46 of the Republic of Ghana. The Authority's primary function is to generate and supply electrical energy for industrial, commercial and domestic use in Ghana. The Authority is also responsible for safe-guarding the health and socio-economic well being of the inhabitants of the communities alongside the lake, and management of any incidental issues including sustainability of the environment
