Mr. James Edjei Biney, Techiman Municipal Secretary of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has urged teachers to continue offering selfless and dedicated services. He said the invaluable role played by teachers could not be over-emphasized “since education is the bedrock of every nation’s development”. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Techiman, Mr. Biney noted that in spite of numerous challenges, the Ghanaian teacher had accepted to serve in every school community. “It is very pathetic that some teachers in deprived communities lack decent accommodation as well as health, water and sanitation facilities and yet for the sake of the development of the youth they are serving in such places”, he said. Mr. Biney commended teachers for their efforts and wished them well in the New Year and urged them to continue to render selfless service to the country. On the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for workers, Mr. Biney called on the policy makers to ensure the implementation of the system for teachers to address their agitations and also encourage them in their responsibilities. The Municipal GNAT Secretary suggested to the government to consider arranging special Christmas bonus for workers to help them address their financial obligations during such festivities. The institution of the bonus for workers, Mr Biney added, will boost the morale of workers and prepare them for effective work in the following year. He appealed to the government to set the pace for such an incentive package to ensure its continuity by succeeding governments.
