The Effutu Municipal Directorate of the Ghana 648 Service (GES), has with immediate effect given a directive banning the use of school buildings for church activities. The Municipal Director of 648, Mrs Elizabeth Amoako Enimil who made this known in a speech read on her behalf at the inauguration of a GH¢41,000.00 three-unit classroom block at the Municipal Assembly Junior High School in Winneba, said any church that goes contrary to the directive would be sanctioned. Mrs Amoako said the decision has been taken to stop further destruction of school properties. She expressed regret that most of the classrooms being used for church services free of charge, are some times left unlocked, paving way for criminals to use the premises to commit crimes such as wee smoking and other indecent activities contrary to GES regulations. The Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim said within two- year Administration of the National Democratic Congress, the Assembly has built seven classroom blocks to cater for the infrastructural need of schools in the area. He said additionally more than 1,000 dual desks have been supplied through the effort of the Member of Parliament for the area and Minister of Transport, Mr Mike Hammah and the Millennium challenge Account. He said the municipality had recorded vast improvement in the Basic 648 Certificate Examination result during the 2009/2010, due to pragmatic measures and interventions they Assembly and the GES put in place. Nii Ephraim therefore called on teachers to give off their best to encourage the children to learn hard. The Works Engineer of the Assembly, Mr Stephen Evans Amponsah who supervised the project, commended the contractor for doing a good job and called for periodic maintenance of the building to prolong its life span. The Headmistress of the school, Ms Emma Quarshie thanked the Assembly for prioritising infrastructural development as part of its planning schedule.
