American Embassy No. 24 Fourth Circular Rd. Cantonments Accra, Ghana
United States of America is committed to promoting economic growth in West Africa through a dynamic and coordinated regional assistance program managed by the United States Agency for International Development West Africa Mission (USAID/West Africa) located in Accra, Ghana. USAID/West Africa serves as a regional hub, providing development planning and management, legal, procurement, financial and other services to client USAID missions in the West Africa sub-region. The Mission also manages a satellite office in Dakar, Senegal to ensure the delivery of more effective technical and regional services. To assure sustainability of our programs, USAID/West Africa works in partnership with West African governments and regional institutions such as, The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), CILLS, UWEMU and CORAF to focus on four priority areas: Trade & Investment and Infrastructure: To foster a more productive population and increase the effectiveness of African institutions through creating a vibrant private sector, this objective will increase West Africa 's trade competitiveness for participation in global markets. USAID supports two regional trade hubs, the expansion of economic and social infrastructure to reduce business costs, and the improvement of legal and regulatory environment to attract investment, promote trade, and reduce poverty. Conflict Mitigation & Reconciliation: USAID/West Africa strategy is to enhance the regional capacity of civil society and regional organizations such as ECOWAS to address conflict; ameliorate some of the causes and consequences of conflict; and further strategic cross-border U.S. Government priorities, such as combating extremism, corruption, and trafficking. Health & HIV/AIDS: This program aims to respond effectively to shared health problems in the region by strengthening the capacity of public sector institutions and developing networks of competent, non-governmental organizations (NGO) to coordinate national and regional interventions to problems such as, malaria and the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The program documents, disseminates, and replicates best practices in HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, (RH) and, child survival and infectious diseases and, reinforces regional and selected national programs. Agriculture & Environment: The focus is to promote greater agricultural productivity, strengthen early warning and response systems and improve livelihoods. To achieve this, USAID will work to improve the policy environment to facilitate the necessary changes in the agricultural sector and disseminate best practices and technologies regionally. USAID will also promote the sound management and viable utilization of West Africa 's natural resources by enhancing regional environmental policy and planning, and productivity of natural resources in strategically important geographic areas.
