Baba Jamal Over Gh¢ 30 billion has been transferred to banks for the payment of former workers of the Ghana Consolidated Diamond Company who were laid off about 3 years ago without severance awards in Akwatia. The money forms 50% of monies government has promised to pay the workers of GCDC. In an interview with Citi News Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Baba Jamal reiterated that the government will not renege on its promises to the people and to the reinstatement of GCDC. He added that the government will pay the remaining 50% by next year. Mr Jamal expressed his condolences to the families of the 42 former workers who have passed away since the company was partially closed and advised them to submit the appropriate paperwork to claim the benefits.
