Deutsche Post DHL, the world’s leading mail and logistics company, and Ghana Post Company Limited, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in which both will seek mutually beneficial relationships across a broad range of business activities. The activities set out in the MoU include synergies in the international distribution of express mail shipments, warehousing and improvements in the domestic network delivery. Thomas Kipp, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL Global Mail, welcomed the agreement saying that over the longer term it would have major positive impact on the movement of goods and trade in general, not only within the borders of Ghana, but also between the country and its trading partners. "Ghana Post would benefit from the well developed international infrastructure and expertise of Deutsche Post DHL and we would be able to draw upon the local expertise and infrastructure of Ghana Post." Charles Brewer, Managing Director of Sub-Saharan Africa, DHL Express, said he is excited about the opportunities that such a partnership will bring – it will stimulate growth and be a major step forward for the logistics industry in the Central West African region. Haruna Iddrisu, the Ghanaian Minister of Communication, described the agreement as a win-win situation for both parties. "It is a ground-breaking agreement that would not only facilitate the faster and more efficient movement of goods within the borders of Ghana but would unlock new growth opportunities for Ghana Post." The two parties have agreed to work in partnership in several aspects of their businesses: • Exploring the possibility of Deutsche Post DHL performing the outbound delivery of the Ghana postal agency's shipments through its Global Network • The use of each other’s warehouse facilities, transport and logistic infrastructure • The use of each other's training infrastructure, as well as technical and management support • Synergies in the domestic and "last mile" delivery and augmenting Ghana Post's shipment volume through their network for last mile deliveries in mutually identified areas for a selected range of products; and • Developing new product offerings and a wider range of choices for customers through their respective retail networks. The Memorandum was signed during a conference in Bonn by the Managing Director of Ghana Post, Mr. Abdulai Abdul – Rafiu and the CEO of DHL Global Mail, Mr. Thomas Kipp. Mr. Nicholas Derry, Director Postal Policy at Ghana’s Ministry of Communications and Mr. Garry Kemp, Senior Vice President of Compliance and Postal Relations, DHL Express witnessed the signing in the presence of the Minster of Communications, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu.
