The chief and people of Npakadan in the Akwamu Traditional Area of the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region has organized a fund-raising rally in aid of a multi-purpose community centre. The comprises a library, computer laboratory, a restaurant and a conference hall, among other facilities. Addressing the gathering, Nana Kofi Ansah II, Chief of the town appealed to well-to-do people from the traditional area to pool their human and material resources to speed up the pace of development in the area. He said any community that did not value education and its intellectual resource base was bound to fail. Nana Ansah stressed that the area is full of tourist potentials with important artefacts like the original keys of the Osu Castle, the gold-plated walking sticks of the then white governor, serene mountainous areas, among others, which would open up more jobs for the teeming unemployed youth. He appealed to all factions in the 15-year Akwamu chieftaincy dispute to sit at a round table after the death of Nana Kwafo Akoto to amicably resolve the issue for the sake of the development of the area. Mr. Hottman Cudjoe Ansah, Chairman of Npakadan Youth Association appealed to the people from the town to join the Association, saying; "no one can develop the town for us but by ourselves." He said, by the creation of fish farms along the banks of the Volta River the people in the area has got some job to do to fend for themselves and the next thing left to be done was to put up a market to accommodate the large number of people who patronize the place. The appeal for funds yielded more than GH¢ 4,000.
