President John Agyekum Kufour will open the 20th edition of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games on Wednesday, February 20 in Tamale. The nine-day event, under the theme "Sports for Academic Excellence," is being hosted by the University of Development Studies (UDS), Tamale. A release from the LOC secretariat stated that the five other public universities, namely University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Cape Coast, University of Education, Winneba and the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) will be participating in Games alongside the host institution. Over one thousand sports men and women are expected to compete in nine disciplines namely; Football, Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Badminton, Handball and Athletics. The newly built Tamale Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies, and all football matches with Nyankpala Campus of UDS and Northern Business College (NOBISCO) hosting other disciplines. Professor David Millar, Pro Vice-Chancellor of UDS chairs a 22-man Local Organising Committee (LOC) tasked with putting together the Games, which will end on Thursday, February 29.
