Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawasi in Kumasi, has advised religious leaders in the country to impress upon their members to learn to tolerate each others’ views and live in peace. He said religion was about peace and followers should uphold the principles and values of good neighbourliness to consolidate the socio-economic gains of the nation. “We should not see ourselves as enemies or combatants, which in most cases breed violence, vandalism and intra-religious conflicts”, he added. Alhaji Muntaka was speaking to the Ghana News Agency after presenting 250 plastic chairs to some identifiable groups in his constituency in Kumasi. The chairs, which were bought from his share of the MP’s common fund, were to be distributed to Zongo chiefs, the Council of Ulemaus and the Asawasi office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The MP also donated a motorbike to the office of the Asawasi sub-metro of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to facilitate the office’s activities. Alhaji Mubarak urged Muslims to invest in their children’s education to enable them to become responsible citizens in future. Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim of the Council of Ulemau, who received the items on behalf of the beneficiary groups, thanked the MP for the gesture and promised that they would be put to good use.
